Step Sixteen, Hardwood Floors

I like to make new posts when things are finished so I can put all the pictures in one post, but now that we are down to the detail stuff, things tend to take a while to get done. So here are a few pictures of the hardwood floors installed but unfinished. I will post pictures of them finished next week. These are 8 (7 and a 1/4) inch planks in white oak, character grade. Our objective is for them to look like old farmhouse floors. We wanted hardwood but we wanted it to be imperfect, because with young kids and dogs, they are bound to take a beating. This way, all of that wear and tear will just add to the character of the floors. Our original plan was to do the first floor entirely in hardwood, and the upstairs entirely in carpet. We ending up deciding to do the upstairs hallway in wood as well and I’m glad we did. It looks great and its a high wear area where carpet would not hold up as well. Plus this way if we need to replace carpet in a bedroom we can get away with doing just that bedroom and not the entire upstairs. Also, here is a bonus picture, a sneak peak at our interior doors and trim. Sorry for the poor picture quality, every picture on this blog has been taken with my iphone which does not do well in low light settings. Thanks for reading!
